Solving the inverse Knudsen problem: Gas diffusion in random fibrous media

چکیده

About a century ago, Knudsen derived the groundbreaking theory of gas diffusion through straight pipes and holes, which since then found widespread application in innumerable fields science inspired development vacuum related coating technologies, from academic research to numerous industrial sectors. Knudsen's can be straightforwardly applied filter membranes with arrays extended holes for example, however, inverse geometry arrangement, arises when solid nanowires or fibers are arranged into porous interwoven material (like carpets brushes) derivation an analytical framework was still missing. In this paper, we have identified specific geometric thermodynamic parameters that determine kinetics randomly oriented cylinders provide set expressions allowing comprehensively describe transport such structures. We confirmed solutions by Monte Carlo simulations. specify our findings atomic layer deposition process, trimethyaluminium molecules carbon nanotube array, but highlight applicability other comprising membranes, composite materials, fuel cells more.

Transport diffusion coefficient for a Knudsen gas in a random tube

We consider transport diffusion in a stochastic billiard in a random tube which is elongated in the direction of the first coordinate (the tube axis). Inside the random tube, which is stationary and ergodic, non-interacting particles move straight with constant speed. Upon hitting the tube walls, they are reflected randomly, according to the cosine law: the density of the outgoing direction is ...

Knudsen Self- and Fickian Diffusion in Rough Nanoporous Media

The effect of pore surface roughness on Knudsen diffusion in nanoporous media is investigated by dynamic Monte-Carlo simulations and analytical calculations. A conceptual difference is found between the roughness dependence of the macroscopic, transport diffusivity and the microscopic, selfdiffusivity, which is reminiscent of diffusion in zeolites, where a similar difference arises due to adsor...

Solving the Inverse Representation Problem

In this paper, we present an approach to extract most relevant information from a (semi-)quantitative knowledge base, e.g., from a probability distribution. Relevance here is meant with respect to some appropriate inductive inference process, like maximum entropy inference (ME-inference) in probabilistics. So in particular, the method developed in this paper is apt to solve the inverse maxent p...

Towards Solving the Inverse Protein Folding Problem

Accurately assigning folds for divergent protein sequences is a major obstacle to structural studies and underlies the inverse protein folding problem. Herein, we outline our theories for fold-recognition in the “twilight-zone” of sequence similarity (<25% identity). Our analyses demonstrate that structural sequence profiles built using Position-Specific Scoring Matrices (PSSMs) significantly o...
